The music program at Terra Verde strives to foster independent musicians who love to sing, dance, play, and perform.
Students participate in music classes twice weekly, learning the elements of music in a hands-on format. We sing songs from many eras and cultures in a variety of meters, tonalities, and languages. We play music games and learn dances to better understand the music and people of other cultures and times. We play instruments, such as shakers, rhythm sticks, xylophones, recorders, African drums, and African marimbas to foster playing as an ensemble as well as independent musicianship.
We share our music in a variety of settings. We perform in traditional choral formats, singing for residents at local retirement centers. We participate in informances, informally sharing the knowledge we have gained with our families and friends. We also perform for community events, spreading our love of world cultures and the arts.
